Other Christmases, Other Places

I recently stumbled across this card an old Boston friend sent me a few years ago..

The photo is of the Boston Capitol building, taken from the Commons, a wide park area in the middle of the city where people gather to lie on the grass, do artwork in chalk on the sidewalk, sing for change tossed into containers etc in the summertime.

Entrances to the trolleys can be found at one end and in the middle of the Commons. They're called trolleys in Boston, rather than subways since most of the line is above ground and only goes under at the park for a short while and also under the Charles River into Cambridge.

I remember so clearly a night like this one Christmas. I was working at Medfield Foundation doing research on dreams and hypnosis under TX Barber, my first year in Boston. I  was doing research at that point  since this was the only job I could find and was supporting my first husband through law school .(I moved into a Clinical Position running a treatment unit at the end of that year) . Anyway, Ted was invited to a huge party in one of the posh apartments next to the Commons.

Two of my (un-named) coworkers and I decided to have some fun. It was Christmas and mischief was upon us. We met at a trolley stop and wandered into the party (the doors were open and tons of people and food were inside. Nobody knew if we were invited or not, and either didn't care or were too polite to ask. We gorged on the treats while Ted pretended he didn't know us:-)

Next we went to see my first and only porn movie ever....The Devil In Miss Jones......ok ok..I said it was a crazy evening.. No interest in EVER seeing another one after that one... ..talk about male fantasy movies...., but the experience was what I wanted  .I was young...it was the sixties...i wanted to try everything . Te Universe still revolved around me

The final part of the evening was walking across this area of the Commons, the big Christmas tree lit and snow on the ground. Nobody else was out and if I hadn't been with two men I wouldn't have gone through there at that time of night. The stars were out. It was very hushed and beautiful. We didn't say much, just walked arm in arm , three across, looking up at the stars to the trolley stop.

One of those nights to remember:-)
