Reluctant Goodbyes

Sirens sing from the shoals
and,  for a moment, I believe
I can still sail into old spaces,
calm ancient storms, but

too many shipwrecks have shown me
'back then' doesn't return,
except in the movies
or maybe in dreams
and the time has finally come
to bid those sweet songs goodbye.
